How to Setup Revit on a new workstation

To configure Autodesk Revit with all the correct settings, it’s a simple matter of installing the software and then running the “Update Settings” scripts for the given version of Autodesk Revit.

New Setup

  1. Install the versions of Revit required for the machine (preferably using a pre-configured deployment).

  2. Open the below folder in Windows Explorer:
    \\ServerName\Revit\07 Settings

  3. Run the corresponding “Revit Settings Update One Box - <YYYY>.bat” script by double clicking on it. Simply close the window once it has finished.

INFO: This will instantly update your Revit configuration to the standard company setup. The command takes less than a second to complete.

INFO: A Revit deployment should be created on the network and placed in:
\\ServerName\Revit\05 Installation\Revit <YYYY>\

New Setup for future Revit versions (BIM Managers only):

  1. Create a new sub-folder for the new version of Revit (EG: 2022) in
    \\ServerName\Revit\07 Settings\

  2. Copy across all the files from a previous year into the new year folder.

  3. Open the Revit.ini file in the new year folder with notepad and do a Find & Replace for the year and update it with the new year.

  4. Copy a previous year’s script into the same place and update its name to use the new year:
    Revit Settings Update One Box - 2021.bat

  5. Right click on this file and choose Edit…

  6. Do a Find & Replace for the year and update it with the new year.

  7. Ensure you have upgraded versions of the Project Template in place and have created a new folder for the family templates and copied in the current Metric Templates and upgraded any custom ones. EG:
    \\ServerName\Revit\07 Templates\a Family\2021
