How to Open Collaborate Pro (BIM360 Design) Project Files

There are a few ways to access a BIM360 Design project file, and depending on which method used will depend on whether you open the live working file or an archive copy. Follow the below steps to open the live model.

WARNING:

  1. DO NOT use the Open … command and browse to BIM360 in Windows Explorer as this will not give you the live model (for Revit 2019 onwards). This method only accesses the files in the Document Management module using the Autodesk Desktop Connector App.

  2. In Revit 2018.3, you have to use the Open … command and use the BIM 360 button in the Left Navigation Pane to access the live model.

Open a BIM360 Design Project

Step by Step Guide:

  1. Select BIM 360 tab, to switch from Recent Files to BIM 360

  2. Now browse to and select the model you would like to open by click on the File Name.1

    Use the ellipsis … button to the far right to select the Worksharing open options, similar to when opening a locally Workshared model.

  3. The model will now be downloaded to your collaboration cache along with any link references. If this is the first time you are opening this model it will take longer to open as the full files will need to be downloaded. If you have opened this model before, only the updated files will be downloaded and as such it will be faster. Once opened you may commence working.

WARNING:

  1. Ensure you open the live model and not an archive/record model.
