How to Issue a Revit Model

How to Issue a Revit Model

For some projects, you will be required to issue the Revit model to the client or to consultants to allow them to collaborate with you on the project. Prior to doing this the model should be prepared for issue. This should be done in accordance with any applicable BIM Management Plan (BMP/BEP). If none exist for the project, it should be done using the following process:

Prepare the Model for Issue

Step by Step Guide:

  1. In the live model, first conduct an Audit and resolve as many Warnings as possible.

  2. Go to View ► Sheet Composition ► Revisions, and select Add to add a new Revision, ensuring the previous Revisions all have their “Issued” checkbox ticked.

  3. Enter the Date, Description for the Issue, Issued to and Issued by values.

  4. Select OK to save these changes.

  5. Go to your X00.00 - MODEL STATUS sheet, and in the Properties select Edit… for the Revisions on Sheet parameter. Tick the check box for the current revision.

  6. Complete all the parameter information on the sheet for LOD, LOI, Authorised Uses and describe the latest changes since the last model issue.

  7. Save, Synchronise the model, and close the file.

Issue the Model using eTransmit (quick)

Step by Step Guide:

  1. With all files closed select Add-ins ► eTransmit ► Transmit Model(s)

  2. Select Browse Model… to select a single Revit Model to issue. Or if there are multiple Revit Models to issue, choose the Browse folders…

  3. Choose where you want to save the models, using the second Browse folders… button or simply paste in the path to the folder.

  4. You can choose to add other files with the issue, however in almost all cases there is no need to include any other files. The only exception may be sending the model to a visualisation expert and it may be useful to include the decal image files.

  5. Choose to Cleanup the file:

    1. Do NOT disable worksets (this can impact the output of views)

    2. Select Purge unused

    3. Select Include all sheets and Only include views on sheets

  6. Select Transmit model(s). Revit will now process each of the models and save a detached copy in the output folder.

This method of model issue is fast and easy, but is equally limited. Typically we do not want to include all our views on sheets. Refer below for the preferred issue method.

Issue the Model Manually (preferred)

Step by Step Guide:

  1. Open the Revit Model using File ► Open with the Detach from Central option selected.

  2. When prompted choose Detach and preserve worksets.

  3. Using the schedule “Xrev-Sheet List-For Removal”, delete all sheets by highlighting all rows and selecting Rows ► Delete

    1. Verify all Sheets except the XX00.00 - MODEL STATUS is the only sheet remaining. This sheet is our Model Revision Sheet.

  4. Using the schedule “Xrev-View List-For Removal”, delete all (keeping the following1) views by highlighting all rows and selecting Rows ► Delete

    1. Overall General Arrangement Plans (Floor Plans/Structural Plans) for each level

    2. Overall Reflected Ceiling Plans for each level

    3. Overall Building Elevations

    4. Overall Building Sections

  5. In the Project Browser, select all Legends and Delete.

  6. In the Project Browser, select all Schedules and Delete.

  7. Select Manage ► Settings ► Purge Unused and select Check All and OK. Repeat this process 2 more times to ensure you remove all dependencies.

  8. Save As the file into the appropriate Issued folder with its original name.2

  9. Repeat this process for each model to be issued.

NOTES:

  1. These views are left so consultants may use them as an underlay in their drawings using the By Linked View option.

  2. If Copy/Monitor is being used by anyone on the team, models must have a consistent name throughout the project. So dates should be avoided in file names and instead, if a date is required zip the model up with a date in that file name.
