How to Cut Open Wall Ends at an Angle

You may have a situation where wall and slab edge are not perpendicular to each other yet you want the wall end to finish flush with the slab. The best way to do this is outlined below.

Cut the Wall end to match the Slab Edge

Ending a Wall at an Angle using a Void Family

  1. Load the Family from the Library, Box-Structural Framing-Generic-Void.rfa

  2. Select Structure ► Structure ► Beam, or type the Keyboard Shortcut (BM)

  3. If the Family has just been loaded it will be already be the selected Type, if it was already Loaded you will need to select it from the Type selector in the Properties Palette

  4. As this is a Face Based family, in the Ribbon select Place on Work Plane, we will use the Level as the Host

  5. Place the Void so it would cut the Wall as desired

  6. Ensure the size of the Void is large enough to completely cut the desired part of the end of the wall. Use the grips or instance parameters to adjust its size to do so. This family has Grips in 3D.

  7. Select Modify ► Geometry ► Cut Geometry

  8. Select the Wall to be Cut then the Void Family

  9. The wall has now been cut as required.

WARNING:

  • There are other methods, however this is the recommended method and is the most flexible and has no other flow on effects. Other methods include:

    • Previously Phased Walls using Wall Joins

    • In-place Families
