How to Graphically Schedule Doors
Showing a Graphic Schedule for Aluminium/Glazed Doors/Windows is a common Architectural practice that unfortunately Revit doesn’t make particularly easy. Revit has the concept of Legend Components which was Autodesk’s intended tool for this purpose.
Legend Components
Legend Components can be placed in Legend Views, they allow you to place a Graphical representation of the Family Type for loadable Family Types and System Families to show Plan, Section and Front/Back Orientation dependent on the Family Category.
Limitations
WARNING:
There are a number of major limitations of Legend Components;
System Families cannot be dimensioned (Walls, Floors, Ceilings, Roofs), only Loadable Family Types
Elements cannot be Tagged either By Category, Material or Keynote as such you have to resort to Text and linework, or preferably custom built Generic Annotation families with instance parameters to edit. However, this then presents a coordination issue.
You cannot set Instance Parameters, so if the families rely mainly on Instance parameters for sizing and their appearance then Legend Components are completely useless.
Pre-Phased Elements
The smarter and more flexible approach is to utilise the Administration Phase within the Template.
Using the Administration Phase for Graphical Schedules
Duplicate the Ground Floor - Working Floor Plan
Name it Ground Floor - Graphical Schedules
Change the Phase to Administration and Phase Filter to New Demo & Temp
Place a Long Horizontal Wall
Place each of your Door Types within the Wall and set your Door instance properties as required to achieve the required appearance
Place a Working Section Parallel with the Wall to View all of the Doors and Name it your Graphical Door Schedule, you may want to make use of Dependent Views here.
Adjust the Visibility/Graphic Overrides to only see the Host Wall, Doors and any required Tags/Levels
Select the entire Wall and all the Doors within it and set their Phase Demolished as Administration
Adjust the Phase Filter to Administration in both the Section and Plan
NOTE:
This ensures that none of these elements are scheduled or shown in any subsequent phases and documentation.
NOTE:
Utilise the Graphical Schedule to show Type Marks, then place traditional text schedules below the graphical schedule which refer back to the Graphical Schedule.
