How to utilise Colour Schemes

Colour schemes are useful for graphically illustrating categories of spaces and differentiating different properties/features of elements.

For example, you can create a colour scheme by room name, area, occupancy, or department. If you want to colour rooms in a floor plan by department, set the Department parameter value for each room to the necessary value, and then create a colour scheme based on the values of the Department parameter. You can then add a colour fill legend to identify the department that each colour represents.

Colour Palette

The following colour palette is to be adhered to for all projects that require architectural colouring. The intention is to provide consistent outputs and communication of material to clients. There may be certain scenarios that require custom alterations such as competition specific graphics, however where possible the below palette should be used.

Applying a Colour Scheme

You can apply colour schemes based on any parameter value for the following:

  • Rooms

  • Areas

  • Spaces or Zones

  • Pipes or Ducts

Below is a list of useful cases for colour schemes with fills

  • Rooms by Number
    It might be cleaner to just show a room number rather than the Room Name to keep the plan very minimal.

  • Rooms by Floor Finish
    Colour code the finishes for quick reference as opposed to modelling the floor finishes. Great for early concepts

  • Rooms by Occupancy
    You may have setup a schedule that has the occupancy setup as a calculated value based upon the Room Classification and Area

  • Rooms by Department
    For a hospital project, this becomes a powerful display method and will also highlight when a Room hasn’t been set to have the correct department.

  • Areas (NLA) by Size
    Setup a series of Area Ranges and apply colours to them

  • Ducts/Pipes by Flow Rates
    Find congestion or peak points for resolution
