How to Show Roof's Dashed Overhead

How to Show Roof's Dashed Overhead

Sometimes its important to see where the Roof/soffit is located over from the Floor Plan. Depending on the complexity there are a couple of methods to achieve this.

  • Using the Linework Tool

  • Overlaying Views on the Sheet

Using the Linework Tool Method

The linework tool is perfect when there are only specific lines you want to see.

View Properties

In the View you want to see the Roof Dashed Over, use the Underlay or make Temporary View Changes to allow the Roof to be seen.

Floor Plan with Roof Underlaid

Select Modify ► View ► Linework and Select the Line Style as <Overhead>, then click on each of the Roof Edges you want to see.

Finally turn off the Underlay or reset the Temporary View Properties. The Linework will remain.

NOTE:

  • It may be easier to turn off the sub-categories for Fascia’s and Gutters and the Roof Surface Pattern if you have these modelled/shown.

  • You will find if you hover over the Lineworked edges the Roof is now selectable so be careful not to accidentally modify it.

  • If the Roof sketch is modified and new lines are drawn in the sketch or recreated the linework will be lost on the deleted edges.

Overlaying Views on the Sheet Method

If you want to see all the linework of the Roof, this is a great method as its fully automated once setup. That is, its not impacted by design changes.

Place your Floor Plan on a sheet if its not already.

Duplicate your Roof Plan or create one, Name it ROOF OVERLAY, set the Visibility/Graphic Overrides so only the Roof Category (and none of its sub-categories) is visible).

Adjust the Roofs Category to display the Overhead Line Style for Projection Lines

Roof Overlay View Settings

Turn Off all Roof Patterns and Set the Transparency to 100%, then Place this View on the Same Sheet in the same location as your Floor Plan. It will snap into position.

NOTE:

  • Use the Linework tool, using <Invisible Lines> to hide any unwanted edges in the Roof Overlay View.
