Using the Browser Organisation tool

Group, sort and filter the project browser views, sheets, schedules/quantities in a way that best supports your work.

Project Browser Organisation

In brackets next to items 1, 2 & 3 in the screenshot above are the currently applied Browser organisations for the Views, Schedules/Quantities & Sheets respectively.

Selecting any one of these headers, allows you to pick from the currently available Browser Organisation Types (schemes) to each type of element using the Type Selector.

By changing the organisation of the Project Browser you will be able to more quickly find and access the information that’s important to you.

Additional Browser Organisation Schemes can be created from the ribbon. View tab ► Windows ► User Interface ► Browser Organization or Right-Click ► Browser Organization from within the Project Browser.

Customise Browser Organisation Settings

Creating a custom browser organisation

  1. Open the Browser Organisation Settings from View tab ► Windows ► User Interface ► Browser Organization.

  2. From here you can see there are 3 tabs allowing you to create/modify & delete browser organisation settings for the 3 different categories of elements; Views, Sheets & Schedules. In this example we’ll create a new Schedule Organisation Scheme. Select the Schedules tab and choose New.

  3. You are first prompted to Name the Scheme, lets call this one Category-New Construction.

  4. We want to organise the view to group the schedules by the family category and filter to only show us schedules that have their Phase set at New Construction.
Set the Filtering to Phase is equal to New Construction. You can apply up to 3 Filters per Scheme

  5. Change to the Grouping and Sorting tab.

  6. You can assign up to 6 Levels of Grouping and use all characters or a specified number of leading characters (the latter is particularly useful for Sheet organisation). In this case we’ll group by Category.

  7. For Sorting you can assign one parameter and choose whether its Ascending or Descending. Choose sort by View Name and Ascending.

  8. Save your Scheme and select the Schedules/Quantities in the Project Brower, then from the Type Selector choose your newly created scheme to see it in action.

Note:

  • Browser Organisation Schemes can be copied between projects using Transfer Project Standards or 3rd Party Plugins.

  • In a Workshared project, when you open a file, the last applied browser organisation settings from the last user to save will be seen. Changing them in your session does not impact other users unless they close and re-open the project.
